On September 5th, 2019 Lillian Grace was born to parents Leann and Patrick Borden of Nevada. What was supposed to be the happiest day, turned out to be really difficult.
When Lily was born, a nurse noticed that her limbs weren't moving. Leann told CNN, "She came out paralyzed pretty much. Her limbs weren't moving like they should and that's what caused curiosity, like something's not right."
Multiple tests were done in the neonatal intensive care unit, but nothing showed anything abnormal until another doctor ordered an MRI. The MRI showed an ominous spot on her brain stem. After days of lots of tests, the Bordens learned their daughter was born with a tumor on her brain stem that was a stage 3-4 glioma brain tumor. Lily underwent emergency surgery to get the tumor out as it started to cut off her airway. After the surgery, she went through targeted chemotherapy.
After weeks of chemotherapy at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in California, Lily was finally declared cancer-free in January 2020. A sweet video of Lily ringing the cancer-free bell at the hospital with the help of her parents is now going viral.
