A 10-year-old Ohio girl is getting the life-saving kidney transplant she needs, thanks to a teacher at her own school who she had never even met.

Eva Brown has an incredibly rare disease (collapsing focal segmental glomerulosclerosis or cFSGS) and without a cure, a transplant is her only hope.

After friends and family found out they were not matches for the little girl, a friend shared Eva’s story on Facebook and they got an “overwhelming response,” Eva’s mom, Alana, says. Tanya Thomas stepped up to offer to donate a kidney to the little girl, and even though they had never met, she’s a teacher at Eva’s school and wanted to help. Testing confirms Thomas is a match for Eva and the transplant surgery is scheduled for May 30.

Alana says she wants to thank Thomas for “a selfless act of love kindness” and says her daughter’s donor is “truly an incredible person.”
