MICKEY GUYTONreleased her song"Black Like Me"yesterday, and the timing is perfect. Not only is the message real, but it's something we NEED to hear and, hopefully, process.
She co-wroteit but it's definitely her story. Here's the opening verse: "Little kid in a small town . . . I did my best just to fit in . . . Broke my heart on the playground, when they said I was different."
Then it moves to the present, and the sad reality we're in: "Now, I'm all grown up and nothin' has changed. Yeah, it's still the same." But to her credit, she ends it with her head held high and this declaration: "And I'm proud to be black like me."
